Jannaya Smith Christopher, 10 years old, recently had a seizure as was rushed to the hospital. They conducted an MRI and today they called her mother to bring her back because they saw something on the MRI that caused question. (She lives in Alaska and was once Little Miss Alaska.) Jannaya is a great young lady, very sweet and with good manners.
Vanessa Smith, her mother has an illness that has not yet been diagnosed but she has lost so much weight that she can now wear her ten year old daughter's clothes.
Sean Christopher, her father has had great difficulty finding employment and needs your prayers so that he can soon find employment that will result in the proper financial means to care for his family domestically and medically.

Rosetta Christopher has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time and is being treated once again, she is in her early 30's and a lovely young lady. She and her husband George have been married only a few years and have a young daughter. George, has let his circumstances turn him away from his faith and is leading an unsavory existence. Please pray for them as well.

Sean and George's mother, Connie, is caring for her elderly mother, Dorthy Stuart, the epitome of the worlds greatest mom, who has suffered from 3 strokes and was diagnosed in early stages of Alzheimer disease. The company Connie worked with for over 10 years has shut it's doors. Connie is seeking employment and the means to acquire help with the care of her mother. Please pray for both of them. One of Connie's sisters, JoAnn, has suffered with a cough for over 15 years that no doctor has been able to figure out the cause and her other sister, Desiree', has struggled with diabetes and hypertension, their brother, Selwyn has has multiple illnesses to include seizures, strokes, heart problems, and respiratory problems.

Hello Everyone,

As you have probably heard, Dr. Dan Harrington's daughter Morgan is missing.
A student at Virginia Tech, Morgan was last seen on Saturday night at John
Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. We are doing everything we can to
support Dr. Harrington and his family during this crisis.

Dr. Harrington and his wife Gil have asked that the following message be
shared with everyone possible in order to express the hope and love they
wish Morgan to experience. The Harringtons have a special message of love
they communicate with one another verbally, in notes, and even in signing
(perhaps if you have traveled with Dan, you have noticed that this symbol is
even on his luggage!)

The Harrington's believe that if we all think this through, pray/meditate
and share it with others, that Morgan will experience the love, comfort and

windows. Perhaps a group of folks will even get bumper stickers made as a

Thanks for your prayers for Danny, my sisters' ex, who underwent both chemo and radiation for a tumor on his lung. Danny has been blessed with a miracle - the doctors today found only scar tissue remaining! Thank you, Lord!

Please continue to pray for Janice, my friend Dan's sister, who is back in the hospital with a mysterious illness. She lives in the Pittsburgh area.

The doctor was able to correct the problem without jeopardizing the kidney. Dennis and Holly, his wife, could still use some prayer as he recovers. Praise God for His help with this!

However, his mother, who lives in Colorado, just had emergency surgery for complications from diabetes and cancer, which they say has spread to her liver. He is making arrangements to go out there, adding that it looks grim.

Hello friends,
We all have plenty of prayer needs but may I share two with you.
One is for an expectant mother who is weak and dehydrated. I don't know all the details but she's having some serious challenges. She is a believer.
The second is for a couple, the wife in particular, whose marriage is under severe attack. I have previously asked for prayer for her. She is a believer, he is not. Below is an excerpt from an email from her. She needs God's supernatural strength and comfort for this challenge; he needs to be broken to see his need for Jesus and to stop this wicked abuse towards his wife. Thank you for interceding for these folks. May our Lord refresh and renew you today as you seek and serve Him.

Part of the email she sent:

"I really really really need prayer right now. I feel a rift between me and God, and I feel helpless to stop it. I'll have a day where things feel like they're where they're supposed to be, and the next day will feel ugly and alone.
The reason I know there is a rift is because I am one step away from completely throwing in the towel in my marriage. I am weary. I've been impatient, crabby, and confrontational (yes, anti-submissive) for about 2 weeks. I'm so resentful and angry towards B…. that I want to punish him for treating me the way he has. He has revealed via counseling that he is aware that he antagonizes me. He also revealed that it is his goal to antagonize me until I blow up. The longer I go without blowing up, the more determined he becomes to "break" me. I'm so irritated even in writing this right now. I think that is the most bizarre, insane, immature, controlling behavior...and the gall to hold his head high after stating this fact. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
See, this is what I'm talking about. There's no peace here. I don't know if I'm capable of praying for what I need right now. Please intercede on my behalf that:
1- I can "Let go and let God"
2- I can, with His help, be loving and submissive no matter what the circumstances
3- That I put my trust into my heavenly Father and not into myself or others.
4- That B… will retire his goal of "breaking" me."

She was rendered unconscious and has only awakened once, she asked for her dad. Since she has been unconscious. I have an urgent prayer request... My little brother Matthew's wife Julie (both are Liberty grads) is an RN in the hospital at Duke. She was removing stitches from the neck of an HIV patient a few hours ago when he suddenly jerked to the side. The needle that had infected blood on it jabbed into my sister-in-law's hand. Please pray that she does not contract HIV!! She is in the hospital at Duke and has to see a specialist first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, HIV can take 6 months or so to show up on blood tests, so the next several months will be agony waiting for results. Additionally, they are placing Julie on medication to assist her immune system, but the medicine will make her extremely ill. Please pray that God will comfort them during this difficult time of waiting. Fortunately, God is in control!!

Update - just received from my friend Rick:

Hi All
Just got back from the hospital, all of the arteries are clean, but the apex of his heart is not working, and they really don't know why. He may have had a small heart attack when he had the stroke, or this just my be something he has had all his life. Not alot that can be done, he will be on a blood thinner for the rest of his life I am told. I want to thank all of you for the thoughts and prayers you have sent. Beth thank you so much for the call last night, I will never forget it. Now that we know what is going on we will deal with it and move forward. His biggest concern right now is he can not pick up Rebecca for a week. She will not understand. But her granddaddy can, so I guess I am on deck.

Please intercede for a fellow who is in jail for a DUI, not his first. Alcohol has controlled him most of his life. He needs Jesus. Perhaps in this time of forced abstinence, he might be able to hear the Lord and

" perhaps God may grant him repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and he may come to his senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will." (2 Tim 2:25-26)

As a friend told me, this may be the best thing that could happen at the time; it might save his physical life and his soul, too. May God's will be done.

Got this email today regarding a man we've all heard promoting movies, and may have seen in the Geico commercials, Don La Fontaine. They are asking for prayer "of all sorts". Let us, who know the one true God, pray not only for his healing but that he, his family and the folks who sent this request will see the hand of JESUS at work here and come to surrender to Him. The man whom to many may sound like the "voice of God" needs the touch of God in his fragile life right now. Wouldn't it be wonderful to hear this well-known voice give praise to Jesus?!? May it be so.

The Lafontaine family needs our help. Don Lafontaine, the TOP Voice Talent of today, famous for his signatory line in many movie trailers, "IN A WORLD", Is not doing well and is in the hospital at this time.
Don's wife Nita has put out this plea sent to us via VO Universe, Beau Weaver & George Whittman:
The letter reads... Dear friends and family, I need your help and I'm reaching out to all of you. My wonderful husband is in critical condition at Cedar Sinai hospital; a blood clot is lodged in his lung and he is fighting for his life. This happened on Saturday after I'd taken him in for shortness of breath on Friday. He was doing very well and I left him talking and being funny on Friday evening. Without all the details, I got a call on Saturday morning as I was heading there to visit. There has been some lovely improvement yesterday but he is very sick right now. We need your concentrated prayers! Have your churches synagogues, temples send out prayers for Don's healing and wellness. Light a candle, chant, whatever you do to send that loving energy and light to him, I would appreciate. And save a little for the girls and me. We have had small miracles already and if we all shout up to God collectively, I know how powerful that can be. He is fighting and we all are fighting with him. He is strong and is a warrior so I thank you in advance for your prayers, good wishes and kindness on behalf of my family. With a hopeful heart, Nita and family Don has blessed us with his powerful voice, so let's bless him with ours!We can't think of any stronger energy than THOUSANDS of voice talents, actors, directors, producers and entertainment colleagues. Two requests for you today, if you don't mind.
Our friend Rick Sadler oversees a Charlottesville-based ministry that is the liason for Arise Africa, the folks with whom we work in Uganda. Please pray for a web person for Mission Link. They need someone to manage their website...I am wondering if I am the guy but I have little website experience and would need to learn a lot. This is a volunteer position and would mainly involve keeping the site updated, as I understand it and could be done from anyway. I have a plan to promote the ministry but we need to get the site current and keep it that way! (I'm not affiliated with MLI, just trying to help) I won't put the link in this email in case a spam filter might block it but you can do a search for Mission Link International Charlottesville and find their website.

The second request is for the folks at Spirit FM. Fourteen years ago this month, a fledgling radio station went on the air serving the Lynchburg/Roanoke area with contemporary Christian music. I was among its early listeners, curious about the music and even more so about the message. God used the music and ministry of that station to change my life. (I could write a lot about that!) Since those early days, Spirit FM has grown to become a regional Christian network of stations serving an audience much larger than they ever imagined. As a non-profit entity, it depends on gifts primarily for the operating costs. God has met the needs of the ministry and will continue to provide as long as He intends to use this instrument of His grace and love. However, I was moved to share with the public that Spirit FM has an immediate, urgent need-a new transmitter! I am not employed by nor affiliated with Spirit FM. I had planned to write a letter to the editors of the Roanoke and Lynchburg papers to hopefully draw attention to their need but cannot because I work for another station. So I decided to ask you to pray for this need. We are fortunate to be served by a number of Christian radio stations in the area and Spirit FM is meeting a need here. You may not listen to them nor appreciate the style of music, but if you believe in the message, support them at least with your prayers for this most important need, the ability to stay on the air!

Two different needs, both of which are answering Jesus' call to "go make disciples…".

Hi Brother...

Here's a tidbit for you.

Roger... a fellow in our church has been battling cancer. He's had peaks and valleys and his doctor recently told him the cancer is more aggressive and his prognosis isn't positive.

Roger is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and went to see the show in Charlottesville. Someone told Bruce about Roger and he was invited back stage. Thankfully, it wasn't just a meet and greet. Bruce spent time with Roger and Roger shared his faith with "the boss"! No indication Bruce has accepted the Lord... but... he now calls Roger once or twice a week. The Lord is good!

Hello friends,

Three requests here, if I may burden you. Each is a bit unusual and together they may sound bizarre, but they are needs nonetheless.

The first is for an elderly lady named Jewel who has decided to stop dialysis. She has fought and overcome lots of health issues but is tired of fighting and ready to let go. Please intercede for Jewel and her family, most of whom are not believers, as far as I know. This will be especially hard for one son, Jim, who has shouldered the burden of her care. Also I could use some divine support as her son asked me to conduct her service, but that has not been decided for sure. Jewel is a believer, though I'm not sure how firm her faith is. I will speak to her about that.

The second request is for peace in Tanya's family, particularly between Tanya and her mom. A number of issues in the time since Tanya's father died have created a heavy strain on Tanya's relationship with her mother. Another sibling is feeling some of the same strain.

The third may seem trivial but it has bearing on the second request. Tanya's dad "adopted" a stray dog before he died and we've been praying for the best home possible for him. He needs to be in the country where he can run and play. I won't bore you with the details but it would be a blessing to find a family who would love and welcome this energetic fellow.

My stepson, Patrick, and her parents are being asked to make the decision none of us ever want to have to face, whether or not to continue life support. Her name is Sharon Ober...she is 29 years old. Her three children are, Tyler - 9, Blake - 6 and Lauren - 4. Her parents are Don & Mary Jones. Only the Miraculous Hand of the Lord Himself will reverse the damage that has been done by this disease. Terrible Crisis! There is a terrible shortage of RICE and the price has gone off the chart. Our friend in the mid-west purchased their last load of rice at $38.95 per 100 pounds. That is double what we paid 15 months ago. We need to order between 20.000 & 30,000 pounds. Best Price is $34.00 plus shipping. We are in the process of packaging food for Tanzania to be shipped to our warehouse in Kigoma (West Tanzania). This shipment (upwards of 285,000 meals) will end up at the refugee camp near the Congo border.

Pray:
We will need extra funds to purchase RICE.
Our storage building is almost out of room; pray that we will be able to find an alternative.
With the world food shortage, prayer that people will capture the vision of helping us feed hungry children.

We received an email from Pastor Euticauls Wambua, whom I met last February in Nairobi, Kenya asking for prayer for a 10 year old girl named Leah. Pastor Wambua has taken her into his home because she is being sexually abused by her father and uncle. This apparently is not uncommon, especially in the slums of Nairobi where they all live. This is an ugly and possibly dangerous situation; the father has threatened violence. Leah has younger siblings who also need care. Everyone involved needs prayer, but especially Leah, and perhaps countless others like her we don't know about.

Doris Brown Thomas, 73, received her crown of eternal life, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of James L. Thomas, Jr. for fifty-four years. She was born in Halifax County on October 5, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Irma Saunders Brown Scott and the stepdaughter of the late Edward L. Scott. She was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church, a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gary L. Thomas and his wife, Suzanne of Salem, Timothy L. Thomas and his companion, Troy Warner of Forest; a daughter, Vicky L. Thomas of Altavista; six grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Eric Hall, Sara Edwards, David J. L. Thomas, Christopher Thomas and Holly Thomas; a sister, Betty Hunley and her husband Larry of Lynch Station; two nephews, Kevin Hunley and C. Todd Hunley; a sister-in-law, Joyce Thomas Guthrie; and two nieces, Erin Burke and Shannon Eubanks.

A funeral service will be held Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm in Lane Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Martin and Rev. Julie Flores, assisted by Bob Carpenter and Mac Calhoun with interment to follow in Green Hill Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Finch and Finch Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

I just got off IM with a missionary in Uganda and the crisis in Kenya is causing a lot of trouble for the people of Uganda. Here's what we know so far:

There is NO fuel in Uganda now. That means NO public transportation, no taxis, no buses, etc... The last day fuel was available (8 days ago), the price was $21.60 per gallon! The country is almost at a standstill!

All food, containers, and petrol deliveries have stopped at the border of Kenya with nothing coming in or out of the country.

It looks like Uganda will be having a food shortage and ALL prices in the country will be sky-rocketing. All of the missionaries are stocking up on food and supplies. I just sent money ahead for two 30 lb. kegs of cooking gas and it cost me almost $300!

The IMB Seminary has canceled all classes for this next term. Many of their students come from very far away and there is no public transportation available.

Please pray for Uganda and all of the East African countries that are affected by this Kenya crisis. Pray for a CALM resolution for the two political sides in Kenya to meet and settle things peacefully. Pray for my family and I as we plan to return to Uganda in just a few weeks time. Pray for God's timing!

She was not eating or feeling well Saturday, so she was taken to Lynchburg General, where she has been recuperating. They're saying she could come home as early as Wednesday. Please pray for my daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Troy Bomar. They are headed to UVA for the birth of their daughter, Sydney Ann. Sydney has multiple problems, including not having any kidneys--according to the ultrasounds. Amber was to be induced on November 15th, but went into labor early this morning.

Please pray for comfort for them and their other four children. If it is God's will to heal Sydney, that will be a great testimony among the doctors and nurses who have worked with Amber the past several months. If God's will is not to heal the baby, then I pray that this draws everyone involved to Him for healing and comfort.

Amber just called and they had just given her an epidural. She is dilated 4 cm and is 75% effaced. Someone should be coming in soon to check on her, she said. Hopefully, Sydney will not be in distress and no C-section will be needed.

It will be a long road for them tonight, but Amber sounded pretty good, tired from being in labor all day, but good. She was going to try to get some rest now.

"Little Steve" was the oldest son of my 2nd cousin, Steve Jones, that I grew up with and graduated high school with.

As a child, "Little Steve" would cross the street to my grandparents home (where my sister now lives) and entertain them. They loved each other very much, and he was a pallbearer at Granddaddy's funeral in 2001.

"Little Steve" was 28 years old, and a fine young man.

I received this from my friend Scott this evening.

Please, please pray for very close, long-time friends of ours:

1) Their college-aged daughter is coping with the emotional aftermath of a point-blank range shooting on Monday - the Lord miraculously spared her and her boyfriend's lives... Her boyfriend is hospitalized and will recover - the bullets shot into his limbs missed a vital artery by just millimeters. She too was spared miraculously with a bullet entering and exiting the pillow on which she was huddled.

2) This same daughter was in a car wreck just 2 weeks ago in which her car was totaled. She was uninjured.

3) This same daughter is a VT student and lost her best friend, Rema, in the massacre. She was not on campus at the time.

4) This same daughter's uncle was found dead the day of the VT massacre

(our good friend's brother).

5) This same daughter's grandfather died just after Christmas (our good

friend's father)

6) This same daughter has just lost another relative today.

Her folks, our dear friends, have almost lost their daughter, have lost her dad and brother and another family member within 5 months.

Her folks have given permission for us to ask for prayer for themselves and their daughter (her dad is not a believer): for a counselor for her that is skilled in post-traumatic stress disorder; for healing and recovery of her boyfriend from his wounds; he is also having nightmares; for physical protection - the shooter is still at large; for her innocence to be restored; for her life to return to "normal"...

May we add that her dad would realize God's Hand in all of this and come to a saving knowledge of the Lord - Thank you for praying for this traumatized family as they cope...

Tommy is indeed home but we still do not know what is wrong with him. he is most likely going to have to have a bone marrow biopsy next week just to rule everything out..so that they can begin the steroid treatment, assuming it is jra ( juvenile rheumatoid arthritis)..we just don't know yet. noone wants to put their official stamp of approval on any of it.
so, he is home from school another week and we are just watching and waiting.

Prayers for Laurie

Friends & Colleagues,

As I write this email, I once again want to share some of "what I know" and "what I don't know" with you concerning Laurie's health condition. After a biopsy on her lymph glands, x-rays, and other tests today, it is definitely cancer that is attacking her body. The doctors do not believe it started in the lymph system, but are not sure where it did start. The type that she has is extremely aggressive and is spreading throughout her body quickly. It is possible, although not definitive, that it may have started in the pancreas and spread from there to the lymph glands and liver. She also has some fluid on her lungs at this time, but this is not hindering her breathing. At any rate, this is obviously not the news the family would have desired to hear today, but is what several MD's expected based on her symptoms and previous testing in February. Thus, the decision to move Lauren and Adam Barnes' wedding from November to next Friday is certainly a very good decision since medically speaking Laurie may only have a few weeks to live.

Both Laurie & Greg understand what this means and that the end of her life may be nearer than desired or hoped. However, as strong believers in God's sovereign will and His power to heal, they are also still praying that God may glorified by performing a supernatural miracle in her life - "on this side of heaven". To that end, they are asking those who believe in such miracles to consider fasting and praying on Monday, April 30th. They shared both the facts of Laurie's situation and their spiritual position on this matter with me tonight which could be compared to a set of railroad tracks. On the one track is the possibility of a miracle and on the other is God calling her home. With this in mind, they are both ready to accept either one because God's will answer their prayers - they just don't know when or how.

So - with their encouragement I want to ask all of you to solicit your family, friends, colleagues, church members, and prayer warriors wherever they may be to lift up Laurie and her family in prayer on Monday. I also want to ask you to send cards to Laurie - because I know she would really enjoy receiving them. Recently many of you sent cards to my Mom, Ethel Farver for her 90th birthday on April 8th and I am thrilled to report that she received over 120 cards! These thoughtful written reminders from folks who cared about her seemed to energize her life immensely. I truly believe that sending cards (or notes) of encouragement would have a similar effect on Laurie. And, it would give the postman a good strength workout as well! Just a little personal information about Laurie - she is 48 years old and a 1984 graduate of LU. Greg is 45 and he graduated from LU in 1985. Laurie was "Miss Liberty" back in the days when we still held that tradition and Greg was a standout basketball player during his time at Liberty. Laurie has been a "stay-at-home" mom and Greg owns Seniors Only Financial. They have five children: Lauren (21), Scott (19), Jordan (17), Francis (12), and Isabelle (10). The two youngest are home schooled, but that has been put on hold for the last several weeks.

I can tell you that life for Laurie, Greg, their family and close friends has been like a roller coaster ride this week with many steep ups & downs. One of the "ups" was a phone call Laurie received from Dodie Osteen, Joel Osteen's mother, who was miraculously healed of cancer in 1981. Laurie had read her book, "Healed of Cancer" in which she shares numerous scripture verses regarding healing. She sent Dodie an email weeks ago, but had not heard anything from her. She was quite surprised and blessed when Dodie's call came this evening. It was such an encouragement for Dodie to pray for complete healing just like hers with Laurie and Greg over the phone - it put big smiles on their faces. Thanks, Gary. Tommy is actually still in New York at a children's hospital there. They transferred us this morning. We have been dealing with high fevers, a rash and his inability to walk for almost two weeks now. We are optimistic that they will be able to get a diagnosis in the next few days. Basically they have just been eliminating different things.

Why Did God Do This To Me?

Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?" or "Why did God have to do this to me?" Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away. Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."

"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers. "Yuck" says her daughter. "How about a couple raw eggs?" "Gross, Mom!" Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?" "Mom, those are all yucky!"

To which the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart. If you like this, send this on to the people you really care about. I did.

Many of you may know that my wife's father, Dallas Tester, has been recovering from a succesful surgery in February, and that he suffered a serious setback March 5 that left him with minimal brain function. Just before 4pm today, he received the complete healing for which we have been praying. Thank you for your prayers, concern and support. Praise God for the grace and strength He has provided through this difficult time and for what He will supply as we adjust to life without Dallas.

Good morning, and some good news to share.

My uncle Larry learned late last week that the cancer in his prostate has not spread. He's undergoing some harmonal treatment now and will have a cryo procedure done in a couple months. Please keep him in your prayers.

Mom is feeling better and stronger. She will finish up her radiation on April 2nd. Please keep her and Dad in your prayers as they're traveling 4 hours round trip M-F for 2 more weeks.

Please pray for David who will x-rays of his back today, and for Sara who may need x-rays on her hand.

The tests done over the weekend confirmed that Dallas' brain function is limited to brain stem activity. In accordance with his medical directive, he has been removed from all support and is currently receiving medication to maintain his comfort and allow him to rest. The Lord has provided time for his family to gather and share parting words with Dallas and offer comfort to each other. Please pray that the Lord will grant Dallas a gentle departure soon. He is ready to meet Jesus and his family is ready for him to enjoy the full fellowship of his Savior at last.

My dearest Prayer Warriors,

It is by the grace of God that I can even type right now. I just talked to my sister in Richmond. Two different Neurologists have been in to see my dad today. They are almost positive that dad's brain is not functioning. The fact that he can breathe and has moved a little is involuntary movement from the brainstem that must be functioning okay. They are going to run more tests tomorrow to get a definite diagnosis. If they are right, our family will be making some very difficult decisions.

I have not given up on complete healing for my dad-that is my will. However, I am totally trusting God-may His great will be.

I know how much God cares for us and that he wants the best for all of us. Please pray for wisdom, patience, discernment, and a spirit that allows us to give it all to God for our family. Please pray that the doctor's will do the right tests and be compassionate as they share the results with our family.

I love you all and have been and continue to be thankful that I can lift my dad up in this most precious way of prayer.

Please know that before dad went in for surgery he said that he was ready for complete healing-here on earth or in heaven. What a great comfort to my family and me that statement is right now.

May He be glorified in everything.

Update on Dallas Tester

Good Morning,

Most of you know that my dad had quite a setback one week ago when he aspirated and stopped breathing. By the grace of God, the doctors and nurses acted very quickly to resuscitate dad and he was put back on the respirator and moved to ICU again.

Dad is off all sedation and pain medication and the doctors and family are now waiting for him to "wake up". We have been told that this could be a very slow process-but so far the doc's see no reason why dad should not come out of this-no sign of stroke or brain injury. The family is now taking turns to sit with dad, talk to him, and encourage him. I was in Richmond all weekend and dad did open his eyes some and moved his arms-he is yawning and swallowing-both reflexes-but movement so that is good.

We continue to trust God in His infinite wisdom to do the best for dad. We feel like God has saved dads life twice in the last few weeks both curing cancer and reviving him ( and probably in many other ways!). However we are becoming increasingly concerned about his lack of progress. My sister is with him now and says that he has barely opened his eyes since Sunday afternoon. He is not responding much to stimuli.

When I called this morning I was told that a CT Scan had been done in the night but results are not available as of yet. This has concerned me because the doc did not see a need for a CT Scan last week and now he does.

I guess that I am just asking you guys to continue to stand with us. It is your prayers, love, and concern that has kept dad and us going since before his surgery on Feb. 14 ^th. Of course I want my dad restored here on earth but God may completely heal my dad in heaven. Please pray that He will prepare our hearts for His plan in dad's life.

Please pray for my mother, who is having some challenges with the radiation treatments for a tumor on her spine. Prayers also for Dad and Baba & Larry and Ann & Preston, who are driving her to UVA each Mon - Fri. Mom has 3 weeks behind her now. She faces 1 to 4 more weeks.

Prayers please for my uncle Larry, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week. Doctors seem optimistic that they caught it early.

A fine young man that I coached on my son's basketball team last year, Patrick, has a tumor on his arm. He is 11 years old. Doctors say it appears benign. Please keep he and family in your prayers.

Please pray for Kenny, brother of a childhood friend of my friend Eddie. Kenny is having liver problems, and is in need of a transplant. Please keep him and his sister Susan (who has offered a piece of her own liver) in your prayers.

Keep Suzanne's mom, Rachel, in your prayers. She has been having problems with her knee and a replacement is in the works - now she's having trouble with her other knee.

Finally, prayers please for my friend Larry in Lynchburg, who will have a hip replacement on March 19th.

Thank you all for your prayers and the calls during Suzanne's recent bout with pneumonia. She is much better now.

Tanya's Dad-Update

Hello friends,

Tanya is in Richmond for the weekend and she told me tonight that her father's condition is still very serious. He is still on the ventilator, though he's been weaned off the sedating drugs. Hopefully it's taking time for those to clear his system as he has yet to respond to commands. They meet with the physician tomorrow to hopefully learn what happened Sunday night/Monday morning and whether he suffered a stroke or some other event that set him back. It may be that he's simply taking a long time to rebound; he wasn't really all that strong when we left him Sunday, though we were quite encouraged at that point that he might be turning a corner.

As you can imagine, Tanya and her family are anxious and weary. Psalm 34:18 informs us that "The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit". May they, and all who are ill, grieving, worried and exhausted find strength and comfort for a very challenging time.

Update on Tanya's father

Hello friends,

Tanya and I were in Richmond this weekend and found her dad to be not as strong as we expected ( we had thought he might be coming home early this week). When we left yesterday, however, we were encouraged that he was showing enough improvement to begin physical rehab this week ( that's been delayed because of general weakness). His respiratory functions have not been strong enough to allow him to regain overall strength. This morning we learned that in the night he aspirated some vomit in the night and is back on the ventilator, sedated. He also has pneumonia. The physicians indicated that his recovery would be slow, "baby steps" was the phrase, but this pace has wearied Tanya and her family. More intercession may be needed on their behalf, perhaps, than on Dallas ( Tanya's dad); I'll trust the Lord to lead you how to pray.

Hey Danny! I'm sorry, I was in a hurry when I wrote that! Tonya had a seizure and fell down a flight of steps around midnight! She broke 5 vertibrae and her wrist as well as a serious head injury. The baby was sound asleep in bed and doing fine.

Tonya Massie, the daughter of my guitar player Gary Peters, pulled through surgery yesterday very well. The doctors had her up today "WALKING" (PRAISE GOD!!!!!) and said that if her arm was not still bothering her, she would have been able to go home tomorrow. The arm is in pain due to a nerve in the vertibrate that is pinched, I think, so they want to watch this. This is a huge answered prayer and God deserves ALL THE GLORY!!

Request for an expectant mother

A friend of ours has a cousin named Anne who is sick. Here's part of her email to us:

Anne is very sick. She has Type 1 diabetes, and she is pregnant (with twins!). She's being doing so well, but this past weekend had to be put in the hospital. I don't know a lot of details or exactly what is wrong, but whatever it is, it's affecting her liver and bleeding status.

There are a few more tests to run, but the may have to do a C-section. The twins are 27 weeks old, and "they" say that babies have a chance at 26 weeks.

Mom began her radiation treatments at UVA Thursday. She had one Thursday and another Friday. Other than being tired and sleeping a lot, she appears to have no ill effects. Please keep her and Dad in your prayers as they continue this process for the next 4-to-7 weeks.

Suzanne has been on her back for a week now. She went to the doctor last Friday (2/9) and got some antibiotics for an ear infection and some prescription cough syrup, but Monday had to be rushed back to the doctor with breathing difficulty. That's when we found out she had walking pneumonia. She's still pretty much on her back, but gets up occasionally. Doctor said for her not to over-do it or she could have a relapse. I've been pulling some double-duty as daddy and mommy this last week! She feels better this morning, so I'm sure I've got a battle on my hands getting her to relax. Please keep her in your prayers. Thanks to our neighbors, Carol and Charlie, for some great macaroni-and-cheese, and Glenn and Sherry (and family), who sent awesome spaghetti & meatballs Thursday night despite the death of Glenn's aunt. Please keep their family in your prayers as well.

Also, please pray for my friend Melissa, who is having some health problems.

Hello all,

I'm sending to all of you hoping one will see it soon and post on Emmaus prayer chain and you can share with Calavry Chapel and anyone else as well. Godfrey's family was robbed at home Friday night. They are fine but their guard was hit in the head and is in hospital. They stole electronics mostly but the family was traumatized. I've not seen Godfrey yet today. Pray for all involved in the matter.

Thanks. The team is better and I think we're all feeling okay now. By the way Godfrey is president of Arise Africa, the group with work with here in Uganda. Sunday we fly to Nairobi and return to the states Wednesday afternoon. Thanks for your prayers. May the Lord be with you.

Hello Body of Christ,

Just a reminder that dad will have his esophagus removed on Wed. 2/14. Do not have the time yet so please lift him, the surgeon, the medical team, and his family up anytime! He is in good spirits and we are so thankful that we serve such a Great God. I know that He is already there preparing a path. Thanks for your prayers and concern. It has made a difference and will continue to.

Some of you know that Scott is in Uganda. He left on 2/5 and will return on 2/21. I spoke to him Saturday night and he was safe and is having a wonderful time of ministry. Please continue to pray for the team- for many opportunities to share God with the beautiful people of Uganda and for traveling mercies. I also know that it is hard for him to be so far away while dad is having surgery.

On that same note please lift up my baby sister Lana who is in South Dakota and very concerned and is so far away.

Dear Friends,

I have an urgent prayer request that was forwarded to me from my cousin, Kim Smith. It is for Brent Morgan, the son of Pastor Morgan of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford, VA. Brent is serving in Iraq and is an air traffic controller. Last week an airplane went down killing 34 Turkish people. Brent was the air traffic controller for this plane. He has been fully exonerated by his superiors. All tapes have been watched and ruled he was totally innocent of the crash. Brent was suppose to leave Iraq on Saturday, January 20, and be back home Tuesday. Pastor and Phyllis Morgan just received an urgent phone call from Brent that he cannot leave Iraq. The Iraqi government has stepped in and he must go before an Iraqi board tomorrow. Although he is innocent, they are looking for someone to blame. Brent is very scared. Please forward this request to as many people as you can. Pray without ceasing for his full release from this board. We know the Lord can intervene and bring him home soon!
